Many of Martin’s photographs are available to buy as fine art prints and wall art from our sister site, Martin Bailey Art. If you see something here that you’d like but cannot find it in our art galleries, please drop us a line.

Original Fine Art Prints

Different to the third part prints offered at Martin Bailey Art, our ‘original’ prints are created, stamped and signed by Martin, and delivered to your door rolled, ready for framing.

How to Order?

As we transition to working with a reputable third party printing house, there is currently no way to buy an original fine art print online. If you would like to purchase any of our prints as an Original Fine Art Print, please contact us with a link to the photography and we’ll get back to you with details on how to proceed.

Available Sizes

Our standard sizes range from 13 x 19 inch to a massive 44 x 62 inches. In the case of panorama photographs, we can go even longer. We use only top quality Breathing Color matte, gloss, and metallic fine art media.

As an experienced printer and author of the Craft & Vision best-selling ebook Making the Print – Printing Techniques For the Digital Photographer (A Masterclass) Martin literally wrote the book on printing, so we are confident that the quality of our prints will meet and hopefully exceed your expectations.

Materials

Our original fine art prints are proofed and printed with utmost care by Martin with a Canon imagePROGRAF PRO-4000 large format printer using Canon Lucia Pro pigment inks and Chroma Optimizer for a finish on our gloss and metallic prints similar to traditional silver-halide photographic prints. Note that Chroma Optimizer is not used or required on matte fine art media. We use archival fine art papers from Breathing Color for our matte finish prints, certified for 100+ years. The Gloss and Metallic finishes available are rated for around 50 years, so they are great to enjoy as art prints, though they are not archival.

Selecting a Finish

If you intend to frame your print under plexiglass or glass, we recommend a matte finish, as this reduces reflection, and the glass also adds a certain amount of gloss look to the print. Our gloss papers are a beautiful Baryta finish as opposed to a full-on gloss paper, so reflection is not a big problem. We also use an incredible Metallic gloss paper with a depth similar to looking at a slide on a light table. This really suits black and white images, as well as images with lots of dark areas and large swaths of color.

Packaging

Prints are rolled and shipped in a sturdy card tubes to ensure that prints arrive without damage. We also wrap a sheet of paper around the rolled print, to prevent the print from opening up to fill the tube. This makes it very easy to remove the print. Each print also comes with a Certificate of Authenticity, to prove that it’s an original Martin Bailey print, and also containing details on the photograph as well as production information, such as the paper, printer, and inks used. For more information on packaging, see our video in this post.

Postage & Insurance

All shipments to countries outside of Japan are by EMS. Domestic postage (inside Japan) is by Kuroneko (Yamato Unyu). Your shipment will be insured in case of damage. We have not had any problems so far, but should your package be damaged on arrival, please contact us as soon as possible.

For insurance claims outside of Japan, you will be required to contact your local post office to initiate a claim, but should you be unsuccessful we will follow up in Japan too. For domestic purchases (within Japan) we will work with Kuroneko directly. Either way, if your print is damaged in transit, you will get a replacement free of charge.

Delivery Times

In general, your prints will be created on demand and shipped within 72 hours of placing your order. Because they are all created personally by Martin though, if you happen to place your order while Martin is away on assignment, it could take us longer to fulfill your order. If your order is time critical, please either contact us beforehand to check on delivery times or allow plenty of time.

Print & Border Sizes

We currently offer the following sizes. Note that for some panorama images, there may be a larger top and bottom border. The Image Cell sizes given below are the maximum sizes that the image will be printed on the sheet, but due to varying aspect ratios may be slightly less on the long or short sides. The image will be printed to fit inside the image cell.

If you require print or border sizes not listed here, please contact us and we will work to your needs.

The stamp used is 15 x 15mm, so for larger prints the relationship between the print and the stamp size varies. Here’s an example of a signed and stamped 24 x 36 inch print.

Panorama Prints

Wide aspect images can be created as very wide panoramic prints, like the one in the below photograph. In this case with border sizes of 42.7mm on the top, 61mm sides and a 79.2 bottom border. If you would prefer panoramic image borders or you would prefer a longer print instead of the standard page sizes stated, please do drop us a line including the image title and we’ll work to your needs.
