Workshop in Aburzzo, Italy

I'm thinking of putting together a workshop in Abruzzo in Italy this autumn in late October and early November. It would be 5 days with an arrival day, 3 full days with a morning and afternoon shoot and a departure day. It would include also discussions and review of pictures taken and portfolio. The location is the National Parcs in Abruzzo just 1,5 hours from Rome. You can see what it looked like last year when I was there for an extended period and pictures can be seen here http://www.pbase.com/hkruse/italy_2007 (best seen in a maximized browser and original size). As you can see there is sometimes dramatic weather and lovely autumn colors and additional possibilities when the snow starts to come.

I'm interested in "testing" the interest.

Hello to everybody,

As I knew about Hans' workshop on landscape photography through this thread, I would like to use the opportunity to give a brief feedback on Hans Kurse's workshop in Abruzzo.

The short version is: It was a great and rewarding experience. Some more details:

The group consisted of Hans plus eight participants from five different countries, all of us being amateurs, many (not me) with an IT or other technical background. We were lodged in a nice hotel in the outskirts of L'Aquila, a city in Italy (around 70.000 inhabitants) in the Abruzzo region.
Every morning, we left (very early, indeed) to the "morning shoot". We drove (in three cars) to the spot Hans had chosen for shooting the sunrise (mostly, superb landscapes in the Gran Sasso and Monti della Laga National Park). After that, we drove back to the hotel, stopping at two or three other locations. There we had a late breakfast, after which we hurried to our rooms to download the pictures we had taken during the morning. From 12.00 to 2:00 p.m. we had a session in the conference room, developing the images with Lightroom or discussing the pictures. At around 3:00 p.m. we left for the afternoon shoot. We came back for dinner (of course, after having a look at the pictures on our laptop computers), enjoyed Italian food, and had some more time to discuss the pictures we had taken etc.

It was the first time for me to participate in a photography workshop, and I must say that I was very pleased with it. Among all the things I liked, I could mention:
- excellent preparation by Hans. It was obvious that he knows the region very well, and had spent a lot of time in search for the best locations,
- a good group that worked very well together, a mixed bunch of guys united by the common interest and passion for photography, giving the opportunity to exchange viewpoints and to learn from each other; for me, the most interesting part of the workshop was to see how different people who had been at exactly the same locations at the same time had "seen" things.
- the combination of shooting sessions in the nature and critique and post-process sessions; one of the things I learned was that I need to learn more on post-process, and especially on the artistic side of developing images (what do I want to change in this image) by opposition to the technical side of it (e.g. how to use the different tools and sliders inside Lightroom)
- the fully-packed timetable: yes, it was tiring, but you want to use the workshop time as much as possible
- the affordable price.

I enjoyed the wokshop very much, my enthiusiasm for landscape photography got reinforced, and I decided to enroll on some more photography workshops in the coming years.

Thanks a lot Fabian, it was a great experience for me to lead this workshop with a great team of photographers from different countries (Ireland, UK, Germany, Hungary and Denmark).
