Self Publishing Sky Crystals with Don Komarechka (Podcast 406)

Today I talk with Don Komarechka about what he learned from his recent experience as he self-published his incredible new book, Sky Crystals – Unraveling the Mysteries of Snowflakes. Don is a photographer based in Barrie, Ontario, Canada and a fellow This Week in Photo Podcast co-host, and now also a fellow X-Rite Coloratti member.

In our hour long discussion we talk about various aspects of self-publishing, including…

  • Crowd funding – Kickstarter/Indiegogo
  • Book design and layout tools used
  • Press printing technologies
  • Color management technologies
  • Media/Paper stock selection
  • Postage cost underestimation and other issues that Don came across
  • Some techniques for photographing snowflakes

Here’s the photo that Don mentioned, of him checking the pages of his book literally as they came off the press.
