I provide photography critique sessions, portfolio reviews, and business consultation via Skype or Google Plus Hangouts. In your session, we can focus on individual photographs or a portfolio review in which we consider the images as a group in addition to critiquing each individual image.
If you would also like feedback on printing quality and presentation, I provide consultation and reviews in my Tokyo (Chofu) studio, or I can travel to you if preferred.
With many years of experience working in both upper management in a corporate business environment and as a successful business owner and photographer, I also offer business consultation, which has helped many photographers get their business off the ground, or take it to the next level.
Please fill out the below form and specify what type of session you would like, and I’ll contact you with more details to set something up.
For a Google Plus or Skype call, you’ll need either headphones and a mic or earphones like those that come with an iPhone, with a built-in microphone, and a reasonably good Internet connection.
I’ll share a Dropbox folder with you to drop the images we will discuss into. Images should be either your raw files with changes, TIFF or PSD files, or full-sized JPEGs or a minimum of 2500 pixels on the long edge. If you share your original raw file I may also be able to recommend alternative processing styles etc. Needless to say, I will, of course, delete your images from the Dropbox as soon as our review is completed.
The number of images isn’t limited but for a remote session we will stop at 40 or 60 minutes (depending on your chosen session length) or you can opt to continue on if our schedules allow, or arrange a follow-up session at a later date to complete your review. To enable us to discuss each image, ideally, you’ll have no more than around 12 images for a 40-minute session or 20 images for a 60-minute session. For larger portfolios, we can reduce the level of detail discussed on each individual image, or book longer sessions to start with.
If you request a business consultation, we’ll discuss your requirements via email before the session, or you can simply book time to pick my brains about business, social media, podcasting, or simply a private lesson on how to take your photography to the next level.
Remote Sessions – a 40-minute critique session costs $80 and a 60-minute session costs $120, payable via PayPal either with a PayPal account or credit card. You will not be asked to pay for your session until we have agreed on a time to hold the session, but payment in full is required to book your session.
Face-to-Face Sessions – if you come to us in Chofu, Tokyo, the length of the session decided beforehand, though we will have some flexibility to extend if required. Refreshments will be made available.
If you require me to travel to you (in Japan) travel time will be charged at a rate of ¥5,000 per hour, and there is a minimum session time of two hours. For full day or multiple day consultation, additional travel expenses may apply, though these will be relayed for approval in advance. There will be no hidden fees or surprises.
Payment for Face-to-Face Sessions can be made by credit card at the end of the session, or by cash or bank transfer, and is charged at ¥12,000 per hour rather than in dollars.
Group Consultation – For groups, the cost per person will be less, depending on the size of the group. Please specify Group Consultation when contacting us with the form below.
I am an Italian amateur photographer living in France. I have been studying Martin’s mentoring material (podcasts, video, and books) for the past few months and I got convinced that Martin’s approach suits my learning attitude and skills. So, to improve my photography skills I have arranged a one-hour consultation session with him. During the session (via Skype) we have analyzed and discussed a dozen photos I have captured in the last few months. We have systematically addressed both technical and aesthetical aspects of each photo. This process was very instructive and Martin gave me several pieces of practical advice on how to improve or re-interpret my pictures. In some cases, I have even been able to go back to a specific spot and take a second version of the same picture. This is very useful. Of note, the entire consultation has been video recorded, so I can go back to specific points whenever I need. I will regularly repeat this exercise to set more solid foundations for my photographic skills. In particular, Martin’s approach is based on making photographic choices as deliberate as possible. I very much appreciate this attitude as it allows cumulating and organizing existing and future experiences. In short, you move from learning by doing to knowing what you are doing, which I like a lot.
To get the ball rolling, please fill out the form below. If anything isn’t covered, please just type your request in the Additional comments field at the end. We can go from there.
